Energy (journal)

Energy is a peer-reviewed academic journal covering research on energy engineering that was established in 1976. It is published by Elsevier and the editor-in-chief is Henrik Lund (Aalborg University). According to the Journal Citation Reports, the journal has a 2013 impact factor of 4.159, ranking it 13th out of 83 journals in the category "Energy & Fuels" and second out of 55 journals in "Thermodynamics".

Relationship to energy in physics

Energy in this context is not, strictly speaking, the same as the conventional notion of energy in physics and the other sciences. The two concepts are, however, closely related, and it is possible to convert from one to the other:

For example, if x(t) represents the potential (in volts) of an electrical signal propagating across a transmission line, then Z would represent the characteristic impedance (in ohms) of the transmission line. The units of measure for the signal energy would appear as volt²·seconds, which is not dimensionally correct for energy in the sense of the physical sciences. After dividing by Z, however, the dimensions of E would become volt²·seconds per ohm, which is equivalent to joules, the SI unit for energy as defined in the physical sciences.

Seven Year Itch (Collective Soul album)

On September 18, 2001, Collective Soul released their greatest hits compilation Seven Year Itch: Greatest Hits, 1994-2001 (stylized as 7even Year Itch). The compilation includes songs recorded from 1994 to 2001 and included two new tracks; "Next Homecoming" and "Energy". Seven Year Itch received decent reviews and was relatively successful It sold 225,000 copies in the first year after its release and reached number fifty on the Billboard 200; in Canada, it reached number nine on its albums chart and went platinum. All the songs in Seven Year Itch had charted in the US on the Billboard Hot 100, Mainstream Rock Tracks, or the Modern Rock Tracks chart, except for "Energy", which debuted in this compilation.

The compilation has sold over 500,000 copies. It saw a resurgence in sales after Collective Soul began putting out albums on their own independent label, El Music Group, beginning in 2004.

Seven Year Itch was the last album Collective Soul released through Atlantic Records and their last album to feature guitarist Ross Childress, who had been with the band since its 1993/1994 debut.

Caspian (band)

Caspian is an American instrumental post-rock band from Beverly, Massachusetts, United States.

History

Early history: 2003–2004

Caspian loosely formed in Autumn of 2003 in Beverly, Massachusetts, developing material through the first year of its existence, recording a demo in May 2004 and performing a small number of shows in late 2004 and early 2005, including a support for the Japanese post-rock band Mono. The band's first performance took place at The Pickled Onion in Beverly, Massachusetts on August 26, 2004. At the time the band had not yet chosen the name Caspian and were looking for a vocalist.

You Are The Conductor: 2005–2006

In January 2005, the band signed with Dopamine Records, releasing a debut EP, You Are the Conductor in November 2005. This was followed, in January 2006, with the band's first tour of the Northeast comprising four dates in New York, D.C. and Pittsburgh. In April and May 2006, the band embarked on its first full tour of the USA, reaching to the west coast and back. A hand pressed, limited edition (100 total) tour EP was released by the band in September 2006 on their second full tour of the United States.

CASPIAN

Consumers Against Supermarket Privacy Invasion and Numbering (CASPIAN) is a USA grass-roots consumer group dedicated to fighting supermarket "loyalty" or frequent shopper cards. CASPIAN's efforts are directed at educating consumers, condemning marketing strategies that invade shoppers' privacy, and encouraging privacy-conscious shopping habits. CASPIAN also spreads information and opinions that purport to warn the public about the privacy risks associated with universal adoption of RFID technology, including microchip implants. CASPIAN refers to RFID tags as "spychips."

CASPIAN was founded in October 1999 by Katherine Albrecht.

Microchips and Cancer Report

In November 2007, CASPIAN released a research report Microchip-Induced Tumors in Laboratory Rodents and Dogs: A Review of the Literature 1990–2006 by Katherine Albrecht, Ed.D. which is a meta-study of previous research. The report cites medical journals where between 0.8% and 10.2% of inbred laboratory mice and rats developed foreign-body tumorigenesis at the site of a microchip implant.
